Dowty Group Plc’s Case Communications Ltd, the Watford-based networking company, has teamed up with Carlton Communications Plc cable television subsidiary Cabletime to develop a multiplexer which provides 30 64Kbps telephone channels per 5 rack and would be contained in a street side cabinet. Case says competing multiplexers are located at the trunk node meaning that each house has to be cabled individually. The multiplexer will include a data-video combiner which will link the signal onto the coaxial cable going into the home. Development trials are to begin in the autumn at the Birmingham franchise holder Birmingham Cable Ltd.
