DoCoMo to offer anti-spam solution

NTT DoCoMo is to offer its i-mode users an anti-spam solution, enabling its users to block out unsolicited email advertisements. The move follows new Japanese legislation that requires senders of spam to identify the email as an unsolicited advertisement.

The legislation, which came into effect on July 1, means that spamers must begin the subject line of each message with the Japanese characters for ‘unsolicited advertisement’. DoCoMo is using this legislation to enable its users to block any messages that begin with the Japanese characters.

Users wanting to obtain the anti-spam solution will be able to do so via a link on the i-mode portal site. However, it will not be available until October.
