The positive subscriber numbers will come as welcome news for the company following the announcement that its profits for 2001 look set to be 30% lower than had been forecast.
Despite this fall the company is still investing heavily in its 3G service. It already has the world’s first commercially operational 3G network and will launch an extension to this on December 1.
The network will be extended to cover the southern part of the Kanto region, surrounding Tokyo and Yokohama.
