The experimental network will help DoCoMo test its commercial 4G system, which it expects to launch in around 2010. The company will start evaluating technology for the new network this summer.
4G will be substantially faster than DoCoMo’s current 3G network, which offers transmission speeds that are generally below 1Mbps. However, there are substantial technological problems that the company will have to get round in building the network.
