Sony contactless smart cards have achieved faster data transfer and processing speeds than competing contactless smart cards and will initially be used for commuter passes and electronic money services, called Edy.
DNP will apply accumulated card production technology and vast sales networks to develop both smart cards with credit card functions and hybrid smart cards that include contact and contactless abilities. DNP already has a wide variety of multi-application contact smart card products, such as MULTOS, JavaCard, and smart cards conforming to EMV. Payment and PKI functions will be processed onto these contact smart cards, and the Sony contactless smart card will integrate commuter passes, e-money and building access management functions by creating a Sony distinctive highly secure, high speed smart card.
