This is an important development for the Mountain View, California-based company, said Divitas CEO Vivek Khuller. Whereas in Europe carriers and the channel divide the handset market about 50/50 and in Asia about 90% of sales are non-carrier, in the US carriers are still responsible for around 90% of all handsets sold, he said. The carriers don’t currently carry DiVitas in the US.
In terms of the handsets supported by its clients, there are currently the Eseries devices from Nokia, plus Windows Mobile-based phones/PDAs from HTC and HP (the iPAQ). Khuller said that in recent months the company has been enhancing usability and the user experience.
There’s the issue of how the phone handles an incoming call on one radio access network when the subscriber is engaged on a call on the other, he said. We work with the handset manufacturers and operating system vendors to gain an understanding for multi-threading and help them develop new APIs. The ideal way to treat such calls is to push them to the corporate voicemail system, so that even though you may have multiple numbers of the phone, you want a single work number with one voicemail system only to check.
