The good news is that the IBM Corp-Toshiba Corp company Display Technology Inc is producing its flat-panel active matrix displays at a rate of up to 10,000 a month; the bad news is that it hoped to be making them in larger quantities than that before now, the problem being that it has turned out to be much more difficult to produce good screens in quantity than the Japanese had expected: the low volumes mean that prices have to stay high, and according to the Wall Street Journal, estimates of market demand of 15m screens a year by 1995 have been scaled right back to just 3m.
