Walt Disney is planning to expand its $1bn MyMagic+ programme to other theme parks following a positive outcome with the mobile technology at the company’s resort in Florida, US.

Reuters quoted Disney chief operating officer Tom Staggs as saying, "The folks who are saying the MyMagic+ experience is excellent is the vast, vast majority of folks who are using it, and that, we know, is good for our business."

The MyMagic+ programme, which includes wristbands and a mobile app, allows people to plan trips sooner, move rapidly across the park and personalise visits.

Over 11 million wristbands, dubbed MagicBands, are reported to have been used at the Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, Florida.

The earnings at Disney’s parks unit have surged in the last few years due to new attractions and other enhancements.

The company is planning to increase its business with the addition of new technology.

Staggs said: "We will bring variations on MyMagic+ to our parks and other businesses around the world."

The company is also exploring options for other wearable technology with similar functions of the Apple Watch.
