Discreet Logic Inc has formed a strategic alliance with Digital Domain Inc to define next-generation tools for film and video special effects. Digital Domain will acquire new Discreet Logic software licenses and upgrades to become the largest installation of high-end Inferno systems for film special effects. It is leveraging Discreet Logic’s digital infrastructure projects to create a fully integrated full-service digital production studio that enables sharing of multi-resolution imagery across high- speed networks. It said the digital studio will acquire and become a pilot site for Discreet Logic’s Wire high-speed networking system and Stone high-speed media storage. Digital Domain will upgrade its existing Flint special effects software systems to the high-performance Silicon Graphics Inc Indigo2 Impact, and acquire Fire, Discreet Logic’s new on-line, non- linear video editing system.
