DIGITAL MAY FILE ANTITRUST SUIT

By CBR Staff Writer

Digital Equipment Corp may be leaning toward filing an antitrust suit against Intel Corp, according to a report in The New York Times. The newspaper said that a letter from DEC’s general counsel Thomas Siekman to Intel, strongly implied that DEC may take the legal battle one step further. In his response to Intel’s counter-suit demanding the return of confidential design information from Intel (CI No 3,170), Siekman maintained that the company’s domination in the silicon chip market constituted a monopoly, and thus was obligated to supply DEC with the information. DEC could not be reached for comment.
