The US television industry remains desperate to get the well-nigh stalled move to digital high-definition television on its way again, and interested parties have come together to establish the first fully-operational high definition station in the US.The sponsors of the Model HDTV Station Project Incare the Association for Maximum Service Television and the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association arm of the Electronic Industries Association. The station will be in Washington, DC because it’s hard to lobby the policymakers if they have never seen what you are talking about. It will be hosted by an existing broadcast television station: all Washington area stations are invited to apply for the honor. The station will demonstrate and evaluation auxiliary data transmission, interactive video services, and satellite, optical fibre and microwave feeds, as well as equipment interface issues ranging from program origination through studio management and transmission to reception. Production equipment should go live in early 1997. The project is to run three years.
