Bracknell, Berkshire-based Novell UK Ltd and Digital Equipment Corp have announced that the former’s NetWare 4.1 network operating system will be bundled with DEC’s Prioris personal computer servers as a series of single network offerings. The packages will be available to European users through jointly qualified resellers, and are shipping now, say the companies. The bundling programme is available in three configurations. The first will combine DEC’s Prioris MTE Server, based on Intel Corp’s 80486DX2 processor, with NetWare 4.1 and a 10-user licence. Aimed at small workgroups and branch offices, the offering will list for ú3,400. The second option will feature DEC’s Prioris XL Server, based on the 60MHz Pentium, with NetWare 4.1 and a 25-user l icence. The firms say that this configuration is designed for companies needing a high-performance network today, which can grow in the future. To this end, the Prioris XL Server is upgradable to a dual processor. It is also available as a rack-mounted option. The bundle is priced at ú5,500. The top-end offering comprises DEC’s Prioris HX Server, based on the 90MHz Pentium, with Novell 4.1 and a 50-user licence. DEC notes that the HX is upgradable to a symmetric multi-processing system, and is available as a rack-mounted system. The bundle will list for ú7,750.
