Digital Equipment Corp and Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA have signed a $30m OEM agreement under which DEC is to supply the Italian company with text terminals. It is the first time that DEC has allowed the private labelling or customisation of its products, according to Computer Systems News, although it has been pursuing OEM relationships. Under the terms of the three-year agreement, DEC will modify its VT420 text terminals according to Olivetti’s specifications. The products will be manufactured at DEC’s Taiwan factory and sold by Olivetti Systems & Networks division as part of its 80386-based and 80486-based local area network family of products.
