Digital Equipment Corp’s Reading, Berkshire-based DEC UK Ltd has announced its DECserver 90TL. It provides high-speed asynchronous connections to Unix, VMS and MS-DOS environments from networks supporting TCP/IP, Telnet, LAT and SLIP protocols. The DECserver 90TL is an eight-port multi-session terminal server, with speeds of up to 57.6Kbps, and it can be managed by the Simple Network Management or Maintenance Operations Protocols. Enhancements include the ability to access 64 different sessions using a mix of protocols and a preferred service feature to expedite connections to prioritised services. The downline-loaded software – also used with the DECserver 700 family – and ugradable memory capacity allow for upgradeability, while the use of SLIP enables the product to be used as a static Internet Protocol end-node router for personal computers connected to serial lines. The stand-alone version is #1,118 while the hub-based version is #1,020.
