Digital Communications Associates Inc, Alpharetta, Georgia has teamed up with Microsoft Corp to launch the DCA/Microsoft Select Communications Server, enabling the MS-DOS version of Digital’s Select to run under Windows 3.0. Select is local network communications software that buffers data automatically, while maintaining the client computer’s mainframe session. The Select MS-DOS client can now be run in the Windows MS-DOS compatibility box – a user can switch from a session with the mainframe to another MS-DOS program, using Windows to swap the emulation software. The server detects the swap and automatically maintains the user’s session with the mainframe. Digital Communications has also added Windows support to its Crosstalk product. It says Crosstalk now includes extra network support features – such as compatibility with asynchronous servers from Novell Inc and 3Com Corp. Crosstalk for Windows 1.2 also supports VT220 and VT320 emulation, giving access to Digital Equipment Corp systems and applications that require these terminals.
