Digital Archive Japan Inc is to start a service allowing digital images to be sent and received via satellite in September according to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun. The service, a joint venture between Digital Archive and Direct Internet, a satellite transmission service firm, will allow 400kb per second transmission of large data files – such as high resolution graphics for profession use – six times faster than transmitting large files via phone lines. Customers will need a dedicated terminal, software and antenna for the service, costing $345 and will pay a monthly fee of $38 for sending up to 150Mb of data.
