Digi International has launched TransPort WR44, an enterprise-class cellular router with integrated Wi-Fi access point. The company said that the new multi-function router provides connectivity to remote devices by combining a 3G cellular router, security, advanced routing, an ethernet switch, global positioning system (GPS), telemetry and Wi-Fi access point all in one device.

The company claims that the combination of enterprise class features and flexible wireless functionality makes the router ideal for connecting remote devices in vertical applications such as transportation, remote office and retail point of sale. Security features make the product suitable for point of sale applications such as remote payment processing within a Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS) approved network.

Digi said that the product features diverse power options, multiple mounting options, local scripting, advanced dynamic routing, security and firewall features including stateful packet inspection and integrated IPSec VPN.

The company added that enterprise-class protocols incorporate BGP, OSPF and VRRP+, a patented technology built upon the popular VRRP failover standard providing auto sensing, auto failure and auto recovery of any line drop.

According to Digi, TransPort WR44 is a multifunction router with flexibility for industry specific device connectivity options. Various configurations are available including multiple serial ports, GPS or I/O telemetry modules, a USB port and a four-port ethernet switch.

Additionally, the router can be managed using Digi’s Remote Manager software for easy setup, configuration and maintenance of large installations, the company said.

Larry Kraft, senior vice president of global sales and marketing at Digi International, said: “Industry-specific devices have special requirements that often cannot be satisfied with classic IT infrastructure. The Digi Transport WR44 has all the functionality of enterprise-class routers but with a vertically focused feature set designed for specific industry applications such as transportation, public safety, remote office, retail and financial.”
