Digi International releases wireless enabled core module for multimedia devices

Based on Freescale's new i.MX51 processor

By CBR Staff Writer

Digi International has launched ConnectCore Wi-MX51, a core module designed for low power, wireless multimedia applications. The core module is based on Freescale’s new i.MX51 processor, and offers 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi.

According to Digi International, the core module enables wired and Wi-Fi networking for low power embedded applications with demanding performance requirements such as displays within medical devices, digital signage, security and access control devices, point-of- sale equipment and industrial automation technology.

The company said that the ConnectCore Wi-MX51 is a 32-bit module featuring ARM Cortex-A8 processor with 600 and 800MHz processor speeds. It features 10/100MBit ethernet networking and a pre-certified 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless interface. In addition, it also includes dual-display and multimedia capabilities, an on-chip hardware encryption accelerator, an industrial temperature rating, ZigBee connectivity support and Windows CE 6.0 R3 operating system.

Larry Kraft, senior vice president of global sales and marketing at Digi International, said: The ConnectCore features three industry firsts that make it ideal for low power, wireless multimedia applications. It includes the latest tools from Microsoft for display technology development.
