Many views make a market as they say, and that was certainly the case on Friday: while the Financial Times was euphorically talking of IBM announcing a dramatically more powerful range of personal computers which should reaffirm its leading position worldwide, the Wall Street Journal was saying the boxes represent a risky bid by IBM to revive sales of its personal computers, adding even if the strategy works – which is far from a sure bet – it won’t help soon and it isn’t clear that the products will do much to thwart clone makers.
