Anyone finding the machinations of the two consortia bidding for the international telecommunications licence in Japan hard to follow are in very good company: on Friday, talks on a merger of the two reportedly broke down irretrievably, but while the Financial Times sees this as a plus for Cable & Wireless’ hopes, the Daily Telegraph reckons it is bad news for the Cables camp.
