Sunnyvale, California-based Diamond Multimedia Systems Inc has announced its first series of multimedia upgrade kits for personal computer users, called the Diamond Multimedia Kit 1000 and Diamond Multimedia Kit 5000. The Diamond kits series is equipped with 30 software titles, double or quad-speed CD-ROM drives, 16-bit stereo quality sound cards, speakers, headphones and a microphone. Each kit also provides simplified installation by incorporating an instructional video, step-by-step installation photographs and automatic set-up software. The Multimedia Kit 5000 includes quad-speed CD-ROM drive with a sustained 600K-bytes per second transfer rate, 195mS data access time and a 64Kb buffer. The Multimedia Kit 1000 features a double-speed CD-ROM drive that provides a 300Kbps transfer rate, 250mS data access time and 64Kb buffer. The kits include Diamond’s 16-bit, Frequency Modulation synthesis, and wave table-upgradable stereo sound board. Using the Co Yamaha OPL-3 chip, the sound board is fully SoundBlaster Pro- and Windows Sound System-compatible. The Multimedia Kit 1000 is $400 and the Multimedia Kit 5000 costs $600. Both kits are available immediately.
