Data Facility Hierarchical Storage Manager Version 2 Release 5 provides new Data Facility Storage Management Subsystem capabilities, IBM claims. Aggregate back-up and recovery support writes groups of data sets and control information as portable tape files. It enables remote recovery of critical business applications, transfer of workloads, and distribution of data. Invocation of Data Facility Data Set Services as a data set mover provides improved performance, up to 35% for large data sets, and management of additional data set types, IBM suggests. Improved data recording capability for 3480 Magnetic Tape Subsystems is intended to add value to the Version 2 Release 5 device hierarchy and the product operates in DFSMS and non-DFSMS environments concurrently to facilitate migration to DFSMS. Processor group 18 has a monthly licence charge of $882, or a one-time charge of $26,460. Processors 20 and 30 have one time charges of $26,460, and one-time charges for processsor groups 40 and 50 are $42,330 and $54,610 respectively. Availability is December 29, 1989, and February 1990 for the Data Facility Hierarchical Storage Management data collection utility.
