Devon IT unveils new software suite for PCs

To convert old enterprise PCs into managed thin clients

By CBR Staff Writer

Devon IT, a provider of alternative desktop hardware and software, has launched the VDI Blaster software suite designed to extend the life of desktop computers. Users can download VDI Blaster to their PCs through a USB key or a network install.

Devon IT said that the new software suite deploys the company’s thin client operating system, Devon Terminal Operating System (DeTOS), and the company’s thin client management software, ThinManage, to help IT administrators manage enterprise-wide deployments from a central location. Once the software suite is deployed, users can select to boot into their normal Windows operating system or into DeTOS.

According to Devon IT, VDI Blaster: extends the life of old PCs; uses virtual desktops; centrally manages converted PCs; allows Plug and play replacement of PC to a thin client when ready; and converts back to Windows operating system as needed.

The company added that it is working with customers and business partners such as IBM and VMware to make the new software suite available to IT administrators and executives worldwide. The new software suite is available for about $19.95 per device.

Joe Makoid, president of Devon IT, said: Using VDI Blaster to convert aging enterprise PCs into secure, managed thin clients enables organisations of all sizes to extend their capital investment in PCs while testing thin client computing models. Traditional desktops typically need to be refreshed or replaced every three or four years, but companies and organisations can now extend the life of these PCs by converting them into thin clients.
