Deutsche Bundespost Telekom aims to become a multimedia service provider but has no ambitions to make television programmes itself, chief executive Helmut Ricke said, and the state phone company will set up a pay-television joint venture at the end of next month as a joint venture with several media firms and a public broadcasting body, Ricke said: the joint venture will start operating at the beginning of 1995 and aims for around 3m subscribers and to show a profit by the year 2000; he did not say who the partners would be but Telekom last year mentioned Bertelsmann AG, ZDF television and movie distributor Leo Kirch as possible partners.
