The hot new $1,000 Intel Corp Connection CoProcessor board (CI No 996) includes facsimile interface, 9,600 bps modem, under the control of a 256Kb 80188 microprocessor: it supports a phone directory which tells it whether the device to which it is to send is a Group III fax machine or another Connection CoProcessor, dials the phone number, makes the connection, sends the message, and hangs up – all in background while the host micro is getting on with something else; it can also receive Group III faxes; Intel claims that up to 1m names can be stored in the directory.
