The dismantling of IBM Corp’s Desktop Software Group in Milford, Connecticut is causing chaos in the personal computer software business, with products flying in all directions: yesterday it was announced that Apple Computer Inc’s Claris Corp would take over exclusive worldwide marketing and distribution rights to Publishing Solutions Inc’s Hollywood Windows 3.0-based presentation graphics program from IBM – the first non-Apple product to be offered by Claris; there will also be an OS/2 2.0 version;IBM is hanging on to the Storyboard Live! multimedia program but has transferred it from Desktop Software to its Multimedia Solutions group, leaving XyQuest Inc’s Signature word processor something of an orphan – Signature was developed at IBM’s behest from what would have come out as XyWrite IV, but IBM pulled announcement of the product at the last minute in September and now doesn’t seem to want it, instead giving its endorsement to Lotus Development Corp’s Ami Pro word processor leaving XyQuest looking for another home for Signature – Borland International Inc doesn’t have a flagship word processor…
