DESKTOP DATA LAUNCHES COMPONENT-BASED TOOLKIT

By CBR Staff Writer

Customized intranet news firm Desktop Data Inc has announced NewsObjects, a new component based toolkit to integrate news and information feeds directly into business applications, using Java, Microsoft Corp’s Active X or HTML components. The product is marketed at independent software vendors or corporate developers and is due for release in the autumn, with early version shipped to partners in August. Desktop Data also customizes and categorizes other news sources with its NewsEdge service, a digest of 650 sources of information, which has been included as an Active desktop channel in Microsoft Corp’s Internet Explorer 4.0 administration kit, and will be compatible with Microsoft Push standard Channel Definition Format. IE 4.0 is due to be shipped at the end of the year.
