DENMARK LICENSES TWO MORE CELLULAR OPERATORS

By CBR Staff Writer

Denmark yesterday licensed two more operators to offer cellular service in competition with the incumbents, Tele Danmark A/S and Sonofon A/S, which now also get digital DCS 1800 licenses, as do Telia AB and France Telecom Mobile SA. With this tender round, the foundations are pre- pared for Danish mobile phone users to be offered services at prices that have never here been lower, the government said. Tele Danmark and Sonofon share about 1.5 million subscribers, about 26% of the population. France Telecom’s interests go by the name of Mobilix, which aims to increase the number of subscribers to at least 55% over 10 years.
