While 80386-based personal computers hang around waiting for software that will do the architecture of the chip justice, manufacturers are reduced to demonstrating how incredibly fast they can make the chip perform: Newsbytes reckons that the fastest may be the $4,200 System 386/20 from Everex Systems Inc, Fremont, California, which runs at 20MHz with no wait states, and has a special write back RAM cache of up to 256Kb to keep the processor busy; the box comes with 1Mb to 8Mb memory and six expansion slots and is due out in January.
