Deltacom Gesellschaft fr Datenkommunikation mbH, distributor for AT&T Paradyne in West Germany, is expanding its Pixnet-XL range with three new models – XL-1000, XL-2000, and XL-Plus. Deisgned for direct channel connection to IBM 370-type mainframes, the XL machines enable the byte or block multiplex channels to be used for analogue or digital communications with other computers without the use of SNA protocols. Support for a maximum of 16 controllers is provided and, when used in national and international networks, transmission speeds of up to 45Mbps can be achieved. The XL-channel extensions conform to Open Systems Interconnection network standards and support the use of NetView network management. The XLs are pitched at applications such as driving remote high speed laser printers, cheque sorters, microfiche units and Ethernet applications and disaster recovery; they make the network look like a batch device to the host, and no networking software is needed on the host. The XL front-ends can be networked with multiple redundant paths for further security.
