In its deal with Intel Corp, Delrina Corp, in the process of being acquired by Symantec Corp, gets to fill in the high-end gap in its facasimile software line by buying NET SatisFAXtion software on undisclosed terms (CI No 2,718). Delrina has a product for the stand-alone market, WinFax Pro, and the workgroup market, WinFAX Pro for Networks and CommSuite for Networks, but to date has not attempted a product for the enterprise network. The Toronto, Ontario-based company intends to rectify this with the SatisFAXtion software, although it is only a limited solution, in that it is for use only on IPX-based networks – meaning that, for example, Windows NT users would have to set their networks to emulate IPX in order to use it. Dave Wil mering, Delrina’s product manager, said it is too early to say whether the company will work to convert SatisFAXtion to other systems. Included with Intel’s product are management applications that are integrated with the LANDesk Management Suite. As part of their agreement, the two companies said they will work jointly to increase this integration. Wilmering said Delrina has not, to date, targeted the enterprise network market because the company’s fundamental strength is the user interface… and we have seen the workgroup area as the area of high growth. Indeed, he added When the folks from Intel approached us, we saw [SatisFAXtion] as a great fit, implying that the move into the high-end arena was a purely opportunistic one.
