Dell’s gamer PC unit Alienware has collaborated with Valve to develop the new Steam Machine gaming console which will allow consumers play computer games in the living room.
Scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2014, the new Alienware Steam Machine gaming console will feature a custom-built chassis that offers optimal thermal and acoustic management for a gaming console customised for the living room.
Alienware Co-Founder and General Manager Frank Azor said that with the introduction of the X51 system nearly two years ago, Alienware kicked off an evolution of small form factor PC gaming systems designed for every living area.
"When Valve and Alienware began collaborating on our vision for a PC gaming console several years ago we could clearly see we were on to revolutionising PC Gaming forever," Azor said.
Alienware will also launch its earlier introduced Alienware X51 desktop as a Steam Machine this year, in addition to the dedicated Alienware Steam Machine PC gaming console.
Valve founder Gabe Newell said both the companies have been working together since began defining the vision of the Steam Machine.
"The result of our collaboration is the Alienware Steam Machine, a console that encapsulates the full potential of what a Steam Machine should be," Newell said.
