Dell to sell through resellers?

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Dell is to begin selling its PCs through the reseller channel in the US. Such a move would be a major departure for Dell, which has sold its machines directly since its foundation. It would also have a large impact on major corporate PC manufacturers such as HP and IBM.

The WSJ article speculates that Dell will release a white box PC to the US channel imminently. No mention is made over whether the company is to extend its reseller strategy worldwide.

In other news Dell has reported sales of $8.5 billion for Q2 2003. The figure was up 11% from the previous year. Net income was up 15.6% to $501 million. Dell lost $101 million over the quarter after factoring in $742 million in charges for layoffs and facilities consolidation.
