PC maker Dell is making its debut into the smartphone market through a deal with China Mobile, according to industry reports.
According to reports, Dell is expected to launch a new handset called the Mini3i in China soon. The new handset will reportedly offer a full complement of music, games and other downloadable content.
According to the Wall Street Jounal, China Mobile spokeswoman Rainie Lei said, Dell’s handset model – mini3i – supports the company’s new online platform, which offers music, games, videos and other entertainment applications for download to mobile phones.
China Mobile’s online application store, the Mobile Market, is said to support handsets models from companies such as Nokia, LG, Samsung Electronics and HTC.
Rumours have been surrounding since long time that Dell is planning to enter into the smartphone market. Many computer makers have been turning towards smartphones, which tend to have higher margins than PCs.
With this launch, Dell would be the latest to join other PC makers Acer and Asustek Computer, who have earlier launched the handsets. However, Dell has not made any official announcement about the launch.
