Dell Computer Corp said sales to corporate customers are strong and reports about price wars in the personal computer industry are exaggerated. Michael Dell, chairman and chief executive of Dell Computer, said prices for computer systems are not dropping faster than component costs. He said that Dell’s competitive edge came from selling directly to consumers and added that prices have steadied at 5% to 20% below the prices of major competitors that use retailers to sell personal computers. The company says 90% of its sales are now to businesses and government. It reported $5,300m in sales for the fiscal year to January 1996.
