DELL PUTS BROCADE AT HEART OF SAN STRATEGY

The Brocade SilkWorm switch Dell Computer Corp is OEMing sits at the heart of the PC maker’s new Storage Area Network strategy. Windows NT extensions written by Dell and Microsoft Corp which will feature in Windows 2000 enable Dell to connect up to four NT servers to a 900-Gb disk. The extensions prevent NT from trying to take control of the entire array, enabling NT systems to share drives. It will support additional servers on the SAN next quarter as well as Unix, via the Network Appliance Inc filers it resells.
