Dell Computer Corp yesterday answered Compaq Computer Corp with a new low-cost Dimension line of personal computers that it says are up to 27% cheaper than Compaq’s Deskpro/I models and 17% to 34% cheaper than Compaq Prolineas. The new Dimension line includes five desktop and three floor-standing systems and two notebooks, with list prices starting at $1,260 for a 2Mb 80386SX machine with 80Mb disk and a colour monitor. In Europe, Dell cut its existing prices 15% to 20%, so that a 486P/20 with 4Mb, 80Mb disk, colour VGA monitor, mouse, MS-DOS and Windows pre-installed is UKP1,150.
