Dell Computer Corp is taking a short cut to get back into notebook computers, buying its first new machines OEM from AST Research Inc, PC Week reports, saying that the Dell-labelled versions of the 25MHz 80486SX-based Bravo notebooks that AST released in August will appear in the first quarter next year at prices ranging from $1,700 to $3,500; they should be followed later in the year by full-featured notebooks developed by Dell; both go after corporate customers, but use different distribution channels – AST sells through dealers and retailers while Dell sells direct.
