Dell said the Latitude XFR D630 notebook includes a patent-pending thermal-management system and includes a 14.1-inch LCD screen. It is also available with an optional touch screen that supports finger, gloved, or stylus inputs. It is powered by a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 processor, and comes standard with 512MB of RAM, Windows XP Professional, and a 160GB hard disk drive.

It said features include higher data durability, Latitude ExpressCharge battery charger, an outdoor readable screen, integrated resistive touch technology, a dual locking mechanism, and a sealed keyboard. It shares components with Dell’s Latitude line to simplify maintenance and integration with networks.

Dell faces stiff competition in the rugged laptop market. Getac is the market leader with its V100 laptop, while Lenovo is said to be developing a ruggedized laptop, and Panasonic and Motion Computing recently introduced ruggedized tablet PCs.

Pricing for the Latitude XFR D630 starts at $3,899.
