Dell has launched OptiPlex XE desktop PC for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and retail environments.

The company claims that the new system is designed to withstand conditions such as high heat, dust and 24×7 operations. The desktop can be placed within medical carts, video rental kiosks, retail point-of-sale (POS) suite and other custom deployments that require remote management and long-term system stability options.

According to Dell, the OptiPlex XE features include heat tolerance up to 55°C with an optional ducting kit; security and data protection options such as full disk encryption, chassis intrusion alerts, and RAID 1 support; and environmentally conscious 88% efficient power supplies, Dell Energy Smart power settings, and Energy Star 5.0 and EPEAT Gold compliance options.

In addition, the OptiPlex XE supports Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, and XP along with POSReady and Ubuntu Linux (available only in China). The system comes with peripherals support including PS/2, Serial RS-232, VGA and up to seven USB connections including options for both powered USB and powered serial.

Dell said that through its OEM division it offers OEMs suite from the option of customising and reselling the OptiPlex XE with custom branding to factory integration and support. In addition, Dell Retail Point-of-Sale (POS) offer optional integrated suite that extend from customer-facing store automation technologies to back-office data storage systems.

Dell services offers a service and support suite throughout the PC lifecycle including Dell ProSupport and Dell ProManage. The company also offers a set of services for organisations looking to migrate to Windows 7.

The Dell OptiPlex XE has 3.5-year lifecycle and is available at prices starting from $709.
