DellNet.de, the German arm of Dell Computer Corp’s DellNet pan-European virtual internet service provider venture, went live yesterday. Dell is bundling the required software with its PCs and it can also be downloaded from the company’s web site. The service is run on Viag Interkom GmbH’s network, under a deal between Dell and Viag half-owner British Telecommunications Plc, which will provide the infrastructure throughout Europe through its subsidiaries and partnerships. Excite Inc will provide a co-branded portal and content to subscribers. The German regulator last week forced incumbent telco Deutsche Telekom to cut its network access prices for smaller ISPs to encourage competition between the likes of DellNet and dominant player T-Online, run by Telekom.
