Dell Computer Corp has struck up a deal with the Santa Cruz Operation Inc to sell the Santa Cruz, California company’s Unix System V.3.2, in addition to its commitment to Unix System Laboratories Inc’s System V.4. The deal, announced a few weeks back in the UK, will also be announced at UniForum. Dell said it had no plans to drop V.4, which will lead into the Solaris environment forthcoming from Sun Microsystems Inc, but wanted to offer the Santa Cruz system as an option. Referring to reports in the New York Times that it was considering taking on the NeXTStep environment for Intel systems, Dell confirmed that it had been approached by NeXT but had as yet come to no agreement regarding NextStep.
