Rollins made his comments to reporters at a chief executive event in Boston. They followed chairman Michael Dell statement at last week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that there was a distinct possibility of shipping AMD-based systems. Dell had made similar vague comments late last year about the possibility of AMD machines.
Round Rock, Texas-based Dell, which leads the world’s PC market, currently uses microprocessors in its machines exclusively from leading chipmaker Intel.
For years, there has been speculation that Dell would also adopt AMD silicon and insiders say Dell has, at any given time, AMD chips in its labs.
