Dell unveils PowerVault MD3 storage arrays

The MD3 dense arrays are optimised for entry-level, medium-sized or enterprise organisations that seek high-performance computing from a small form factor

By CBR Staff Writer

Dell has launched a dense storage array, PowerVault MD3 which can store up to 180 terabytes of data in a 60-drive, 4U rack enclosure.

The company claimed the storage array can be scaled up to 180 hard drives and store up to 540 terabytes in 12U of rack space.

PowerVault MD3 is integrated with zero-percent fair market value (FMV) leasing from Dell Financial Services (DFS) to provide small- and medium-sized organisations with access to flexible enterprise applications for all stages of growth.

The zero-percent FMV lease will help small to medium-sized organisations to manage their data storage needs, Dell claims.

In addition, Dell has upgraded its DR4000 disk-based backup and recovery appliance with new features to include tight integration with Symantec backup applications and to simplify remote office backup through many to one replication

The MD3 dense arrays are optimised for entry-level, medium-sized or enterprise organisations that seek high-performance computing from a small form factor. It also supports Fibre Channel, SAS and iSCSI protocols.

Dell’s new PowerVault MD3 storage arrays include Dynamic Disk Pools (DDP) that help maintain high-bandwidth computing by recovering failed drives faster.
