Dell has reported revenues of $15bn for the first quarter of fiscal 2012, a marginal increase of 1% compared to $14.9bn for the same period last year.

The company posted an operating income of $1.21bn, an increase of 134% compared to $519m for the same period a year ago.

For the first quarter of fiscal 2012, the company reported net income of $945m, an increase of 177% compared to $341m in Q1 FY11. GAAP earnings per share was $0.49, up 188% year-on-year.

Revenues from commercial business improved 3% to $12bn, commercial services revenue increased 6%, enterprise solutions and services revenue grew 5% to $4.4bn, and servers and networking revenue increased 11%.

Dell chairman and chief executive officer Michael Dell said the company is off to a solid start in their fiscal year 2012. He added that their substantial profit increase demonstrates that their strategy is working and their execution is improving.

Dell expects mid-single digit revenue growth in its second quarter, which is slightly above its normal, sequential seasonal growth of 2-3%.
