Dell has ditched Windows RT OS in its latest Venue tablets and laptops, becoming the latest company to drop the OS.
The US firm, the last to use the OS except its inventor, Microsoft, alleged that the software was not liked by its consumers as it did not support conventional Windows programmes.
Dell tablets head Neil Hand said that the company is not planning to refresh its existing array of RT products.
"We’re really focused on full Windows products. …The full Windows experience provides great capability," Hand said.
Several firms have dropped Windows RT for full Windows 8 OS, despite Microsoft launching a new Surface tablet powered by RT.
Dell Commercial Tablets global product manager Adam Griffin was cited by the BBC as saying that the firm has focused attention on the Windows 8.1 OS because that’s where the majority of the applications are that customers want.
"RT, even by Microsoft’s admission, is a little bit limited in terms of the amount of applications you can get," Griffin said.
However, Dell has launched new devices including Dell Venue tablets, XPS laptops together with a 2-in-1 Ultrabook.
The new tablet range includes Dell Venue 8 Pro and Dell Venue 11 Pro Windows 8.1-based tablets, in addition to Dell Venue 7 and Dell Venue 8 Android-based tablets.
Dell’s Venue 7 and Venue 8 tablets are powered by Intel Atom Z2760 processors, while Venue 8 Pro and Venue 11 Pro feature the new Intel Atom quad-core processors (Bay Trail).
