Digital Equipment Corp has clinched $300m worth of business in three separate deals relating to services and its 64-bit AlphaServer systems. The Maynard, Massachusetts company has extended an agreement with US direct broadcast satellite television company DirecTV Inc, the company signing up for a new six-month services agreement. DEC has also extended a contract with MCI Telecommunications Corp (CI No 3,307), which will see DEC providing with the computer products and services for MCI’s recently signed $600m deal to update Nasdaq (CI No 3,296). DEC will work with MCI to plan and design the new Nasdaq network which will include the testing and integration of DEC’s AlphaServer computers. The third contract will see DEC automating United Silicon’s semiconductor eight inch wafer fabrication plants in Hsin-chu, Taiwan. DEC has not released the specifics of the contracts which are understood to have been signed between August and December last year, and the MCI deal is valued at least $100m.
