DEC WINS AERONAUTICAL RADIO CONTRACT

Digital Equipment Corp has a $15m contract to supply systems integration and support services to Aeronautical Radio Inc for its ARINC Data Network Services packet switching network: under the terms of the contract DEC will deliver computer and OSI router products that will allow ADNS II to upgrade the existing ARINC data network and provide multi-protocol data communications capabilities to the air transportation industry; also, DEC will supply DECsystem computers to handle billing and communications applications running under Unix; the network supports X25, X32, X75, X3, SNA/SDLC, 3270 and airline proprietary protocols; the services offered will include Aeronautical Telecommunications Network inter-networking capabilities, X400/X500, EDI, X25 multicasting, airline character-oriented protocol conversions, and bandwidth facilities.
