DEC TO DEBUT NT TURBO LASER AT COMDEX

By CBR Staff Writer

Sounds like DEC’s mighty Turbo Lasers – the flagship AlphaServer 8400 systems – are on their way to productisation as Windows NT machines. Currently they only ruin DEC Unix. Apparently DEC is going to turn up with them again at Comdex Spring in June – it had an eight-way technical prototype at Comdex Fall and claimed 87% efficiency in scaling on 12-ways, the equivalent of Unix on the beasts. We gather this stuff will be the Alpha answer to the Intel-NT eight-ways that will be cropping up. Apparently DEC has figured out its pricing dilemma and will be charging about the same for NT as for Unix.
