DEC has finally thrown in the towel on its ill-fated Rainbow MS-DOS and CP/M personal computer. The machine, which was not IBM compatible, was fatally crippled by not becoming available for about nine months after its announcement in May 1982, but DEC eventually managed to get an estimated 300,000 away over the life of the machine. The company has now called last orders on the machine in the US, and no more will be built after the end of this year. The VAXmate IBM AT-alike is now DEC’s main offering in the personal computer arena.
